In 2024, PC games generated a whopping $41.6 billion in revenue. This figure comes from the latest data provided by Midia Research. Looking ahead, they expect the sector to grow to $44.5 billion by 2025 and reach $55.8 billion by 2031. For 2024, the PC gaming arena accounted for 21% of the total game revenue, trailing behind consoles, which brought in $41.5 billion, and the colossal $108.1 billion generated by mobile gaming.
What’s interesting is that PC games also contributed to 38% of the premium revenue for the year, which includes things like downloadable content (DLC). However, if we consider the entire gaming market, analyst Rhys Elliott points out that achieving double-digit growth has become more of a “fantasy” as the industry has settled into maturity.
According to Elliott, in the Midia Research Global Games Forecasts for 2025-2031, the overarching message is that the gaming industry has matured. Therefore, anticipating double-digit growth is unrealistic. He notes, “We’re no longer saying ‘survive till ’25’; it’s more about holding steady until ’26, with some measured expectations.” As we delve into the factors influencing the global games market, it becomes evident that the industry is going through a period of significant—and, let’s face it—somewhat daunting change.
