Although IGN recently reported otherwise, Nintendo still hasn’t set a new date for pre-orders of the Nintendo Switch 2 in North America. Their report pointed to an FAQ on Nintendo’s official pre-order page, indicating that the initial wave of invites to participate in the pre-order program would be sent out on May 8th. But here’s the catch: this date has actually been listed on the FAQ since the page went live on April 2nd, just two days before they announced a delay. We’ve double-checked this using the Wayback Machine, which shows the site’s content unchanged since its debut.
The delay in Switch 2 pre-orders was mainly due to tariffs imposed on several countries by President Donald Trump, which posed a significant threat to the delivery of Switch 2 units to the U.S. Thankfully, many of these tariffs have been drastically reduced after a temporary 90-day suspension. Despite this, Nintendo has yet to announce revised pre-order plans for the North American market.
