Nintendo has just announced that starting April 24, fans in the United States can pre-order the highly-anticipated Switch 2. The pricing remains the same, with the base model at $449.99 and a special bundle featuring Mario Kart World set at $499.99.
There was a bit of a delay in opening these pre-orders originally, as Nintendo wanted to take some time to evaluate how tariffs and changing market conditions could affect their offerings. In terms of pricing for Switch 2 accessories, there’s a slight increase. You’ll now find that the Joy-Con 2 controllers are priced at $94.99, up from the initial $89.99, and the Pro Controller will now cost $84.99 instead of $79.99. This pricing adjustment also affects the Switch 2 camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips.
Nintendo has also mentioned that further price adjustments could happen in the future, depending on market dynamics. Still, they’re standing by the June 5 launch date for the system.
The initial plan was to open pre-orders on April 9, but that coincided with President Donald Trump’s announcement of a wave of new tariffs, leading to a 90-day pause on many, though not all, of them.
In contrast, Nintendo’s game titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza (available from July 17) aren’t facing any price hikes. These games are keeping their current price tags of $79.99 and $69.99, respectively.
The Switch 2 itself brings several improvements over its predecessor. It sports a larger screen with HDR support, adds a second USB Type-C port, and includes a beefier graphics chip from Nvidia. However, the $449.99 price is definitely higher than the original Switch, which initially sold for $299.99, prompting some fans to voice their wish for a price drop.
To address concerns about delays, Nintendo has issued an apology, expressing hope that their latest update will ease any uncertainties their customers might have.
