Alright, so Firaxis Games just spilled the beans on this update for Civilization 7, right? And, man, it sounds like the kind of Christmas-in-July thing gamers have been waiting for. The blog post went on about how this update is jam-packed, loaded with all the bells and whistles that folks have been buzzing about.
Civilization freakin’ 7, can you believe it? It dropped in Feb 2025 – which, wow, was a good nine-year chasm after the one before it. And what have they done? They’ve split the game into these age-type things: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. You get to be this big-shot leader, trying to lift your civ from the mud and into the spotlight by, like, constructing cities and discovering cool tech, or, hey, steamrolling your neighbors if that’s your vibe. They really wanna keep us hooked, and, by the sound of it, these updates seem to be aiming just for that.
So, what’s in update 1.2.2? It’s set for a June 17 blowout. Highlight? Massive maps. Not joking, like, large and outright humungous maps. Ten civs in single-player chaos, and for multiplayer? Eight battling it out. Speaking of chaos, they’ve tossed in some new settings so you can pick the dramas (or crises, to be fancy) you want floating around in your game and tweak the AI so they either dance to your tune or give you a run for the gold.
Anyway — wait a sec, yeah, getting back. They’re also talking about… what was it… Steam Workshop support, right? Mods galore, people. It’s gonna be a disco for all those modders out there. There’s this shiny new city specialization they’ve dubbed Resort Town – sounds more like a vacation brochure, to be honest. But there are also tweaks, 24 city bonuses or something, a few Pantheons, and, like, a ton of religious beliefs. It’s like someone at Firaxis had an epiphany or something.
Oh, and they’re fiddling with quality of life tweaks. Bug mashing, UI polish – you name it. They’re in it! I mean, they even made the Scout Dog pettable. It’s the little things, right? And, oh, Auto-Explore’s slated for a July reveal, echoing how it worked in Civ 6. There’s buzz about this multiplayer hotseat mode, too, but don’t go holding your breath. They’re still ironing out those creases.
Honestly, it’s a whirlwind. As long as it keeps the gears turning in the minds of those loyal Civ fans, they’ve won, haven’t they? Now let’s just see if they deliver what’s penned, ’cause there’s always that tiny chance they might get sidetracked. Who knows.
