Sure, here goes nothing — let’s dive in.

So, imagine it’s been, like, two whole decades. And bam! Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is back. Yep, originally a 2002 hit as a sequel of sorts to Onimusha: Warlords (which everyone adored), this game takes us right back to the thrilling Sengoku period. But, guess what? This time we’re tagging along with Jubei Yagyu — he’s a samurai, and he’s seriously on a revenge kick.
Fast forward 10 years post-Onimusha: Warlords chaos, and demonic Nobunaga Oda is not just back, he’s power-tripping and focused on taking over Japan, starting with Yagyu Village. Surprise, surprise, Jubei returns to utterly demolished ruins and decides Nobunaga’s gotta pay. On his glitchy path to justice, he bumps into four…umm…interesting individuals. These folks can become allies — but only if you’re gifting ’em the right goodies. Gifts equal stronger affinities, which eventually spool out into varied endings. Intrigued yet?
Gifts are lurking everywhere, sometimes you buy them, sometimes they’re just lying around, and sometimes, if you’re real lucky, someone shoves one your way. Pick carefully, though! They each have their own quirky likes, and hey, give them enough stuff they love, and they might even let you play as them. Sounds a bit like a twisted Santa Claus game, to be honest.
So, we pried into Capcom’s brains to find their favorite gift reactions. Remember, as you’re navigating this saga, be on the lookout. You might find yourself with a favorite, who knows?
We got Ekei Ankokuji, right? He’s supposed to be this Buddhist priest but, plot twist, he digs money, booze, and women. Arts and entertainment? Nah, not his jam, but somehow you give him a huqin or fan, and he’s dancing like your embarrassing uncle at a wedding. Go figure.
Moving on to Magoichi Saiga, leader of this cool gun team. Loves books, really nerds out about ’em. But give him just one book, and he’s like, “Nah, I need the whole set.” So maybe wait till you have the whole collection before going all Christmas on him.
Youngest of the gang, Kotaro Fuma, is this ninja guy, thinks he’s cool. Give this dude something like a Tengu mask, and he’ll be like, “Pfft, that’s for oldies.” Awkward silence follows, as Jubei sheepishly tucks it away.
Then there’s Oyu, dressed up in shiny Western armor. She’s by Jubei’s side but acts kinda sus. You hand her The Art of War and she’s…squinting, like she’s plotting your downfall. Creepy, right?
If you get fancy with your gift-giving, mix up raw fish and wasabi for Magoichi, hilarity might ensue — that’s Kosuke Tanaka’s top pick reaction.
Oh oh, one last gag! Director Motohide Eshiro chuckles at gift-giving blunders related to hair for Ekei. Comb or hair oil? Watch him squirm. It’s like sending a hairbrush to your bald pal.
Anyway — wait, no, where was I? Ah, there’s a whole realm of items and surprise reactions to explore in the remastered Onimusha 2 — go, play, and find your destiny…or something like that. Out now for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, doesn’t that sound neat?
Yeah, I should go play… but then again, maybe later… ☕️
