So, get this. Electronic Arts—you know, the big cheese in US publishing—is pulling the plug on Anthem next year. January 12th, 2026, they’re saying. I randomly stumbled upon this tidbit in a blog they tossed up. No more buying in-game currency, but if you’ve already got some, well, it’s all yours to burn.
“We’re super grateful for your dedication, passion, and support. Thanks a bunch!” or something like that—I swear that’s what they wrote. It’s kinda heartfelt, yet, you know, company-speak.
And they swear, hand on heart, that nobody’s getting the boot because of this. But who’s totally buying that? I mean, no idea, but it’s got me wondering whether some folks might find themselves out in the cold later on. Just saying.
Remember Anthem? BioWare and EA’s big shot at cracking the live-service game scene? They threw it out there in early 2019, hoping to make waves. Didn’t really happen, though. Instead, we got these juicy stories about its rocky birth.
By the end of 2019, BioWare was all like, “We need to make Anthem better.” They even had this whole thing going for a new version, Anthem Next. And then—boom—they pulled the plug on that too. Curious, isn’t it? Life just throws you curveballs sometimes, huh?
