Zenless Zone Zero Celebrates Its First Anniversary Again with a New Story Chapter Unveiling

The last four weeks have been a wild ride for Zenless Zone Zero. I mean, first anniversary celebrations? Yes, please! It all kicked off about a month ago with it finally dropping on Xbox—oh, and don’t forget the big 2.0 update.

If you’ve been playing this sci-fi RPG, or even just peeking at it from afar, you’d know the actual birthday’s in July. But hey, no one’s grumbling about a juicy new patch and the start of a fresh story arc, right?

Time zooms by, and here we are—July 4—celebrating Zenless Zone Zero’s true one-year milestone. HoYoverse is at it again with another chunky update. But, plot twist, today’s only the reveal for update 2.1. Yeah, we’ve got to wait till July 16 for the real deal.

They’re calling it The Impending Crash of Waves—which sounds both epic and slightly ominous. It’s all about a new crew and tosses in a couple of fresh zones to explore. You’ve got the Spook Shack faction—fitting nicely with the water vibe of 2.1—plus Sailume Bay and Fantasy Resort. These new spots are major players in the Season 2 Chapter 2 storytelling arena. Sailume Bay is where most of the action’s happening. But then, Fantasy Resort? That’s where the summer fun and games hit.

And then there are new Agents, of course. Ukinami Yuzuha—an S-Rank Physical Support with a quirky tankui bud, Kama, who, I kid you not, hurls candy bombs at foes. Sweet, right? And Alice Thymefield, another S-Rank—more the Physical Anomaly type. She’s a sword-wielding whiz, zipping around, boosting her Blade Etiquette to power up attacks.

Come release day, update 2.1 also tags along with Miss Esme, a new Bangboo, topping the charts at S-Rank. Plus, we’ve got classic throwbacks with Void Hunter Miyabi (S-Rank Frost Anomaly) and Yanagi (S-Rank Electric Anomaly) making a comeback.
