I saw this thing about Donkey Kong Bananza. You ever have one of those moments where you’re like, “Huh, didn’t see that coming”? Well, there’s a whole scene right now, thanks to Nintendo and their Switch 2 magic. So, imagine your typical platforming, just hopping around. But wait, there’s more! You can dig, too. Crazy, right?
Now, I gotta tell you, those speedrunners? They tossed that playbook out the window. They found this new trick, and it’s… well, they’re calling it “IFAT.” You know, Infinite Fast Aerial Turf. Sounds fancy. Basically, it’s like grabbing some ground, jumping all over, surfing air like you’re on a turf… and then bam, switch it off, only to go back into it. Trust me, it sounds wild because it is. Nicro did a deep dive on YouTube — gave us the whole play-by-play. Honestly, a little part of me feels like mastering it would probably take a lifetime or two.
Oh, and about the buttons? Nicro has his set like some kind of button symphony on the Switch Pro controller. I’m not even sure I’d remember half of it. But it’s a work in progress for most of them.
Anyway, Nicro is out here saying he’s discovered “flight” and basically threw speedrunning Bananza into a whole spin. Imagine just zooming past levels, straight to bosses. Okay, there are a couple of areas you have to do the hard way — like picking up Pauline (she’s essential, I guess). But mostly, it’s speedrun paradise.
Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s risky business. Miss a button and DK’s gonna be munching on dirt. And sure, even if dying is just a bump in the road for the casual player, for speedrunners it’s more like a cliff. Time’s everything, right? At least Nicro’s got us covered with some beats for keeping the groove on the airtime. You’ll need to bring your own stamina to the party, though.
This whole IFAT thing? It’s like shaking the Bananza roots. Today’s scoreboard? Totally reshuffled six times. People are wondering — split the speedruns into different categories or what? I mean, who’s to say? Some folks might want the full Bananza experience instead of what’s basically a speed run loop. Either way, seems like Donkey Kong Bananza just blew open wide.
