Two years following its debut, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to release five fresh amiibo figures. The announcement coincided with the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event, showcasing what gamers can anticipate from the next-gen console, including enhancements for current Switch titles like Tears of the Kingdom.
Notably, the Nintendo Switch 2 is designed to be backward compatible with many Switch games, but Nintendo is pushing boundaries further by offering game upgrades. These upgrades aim to leverage the console’s improved graphical prowess, bringing new features to life. Tears of the Kingdom is slated for such an upgrade and will receive new amiibo support to enhance the experience.
Nintendo has revealed that Tears of the Kingdom will feature five new amiibo, highlighting the game’s sages who aid Link on his quest. Fans can expect Tulin, Yunobo, Riju, Sidon, and Mineru to be part of this lineup. The amiibo for the first four sages will debut with the Nintendo Switch 2 and its enhanced gaming capabilities on June 5. Mineru’s amiibo, reflecting her construct form instead of her ancient appearance, is scheduled for a later release, with the date yet to be disclosed.
Scanning these new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo will unlock a variety of in-game perks like weapons, materials, and a fabric design for Link’s paraglider. While details remain under wraps, pricing is expected to hover around $20-30 USD, typical for amiibo, though Mineru’s larger form might demand a higher price tag.
Although Nintendo didn’t emphasize the amiibo compatibility during the Switch 2’s unveiling, it confirmed ongoing support and production. Besides the Zelda updates, Street Fighter is also set to receive amiibo offerings in honor of Street Fighter 6’s launch on the Switch 2. Fans can look forward to three new figures and 22 amiibo cards, all available on the Switch 2’s premiere day. Given past demand, it might be wise for fans to pre-order to secure these coveted collectibles from both series.
