Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Xbox Release, Closed Alpha Coming This Month

Bungie has just unveiled an exciting glimpse into its up-and-coming extraction shooter, Marathon, and fans finally get a proper peek at the gameplay. Mark your calendars because this thrilling adventure is set to launch on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23, 2025.

In Marathon, players will assume the roles of Runners, described as “cybernetic mercenaries possessing unique abilities.” Banding together in squads of up to three, you’ll dive into intense battles against hostile AI security forces and rival Runner teams. Along the way, you’ll be scavenging for weapons, implants, and other crucial gear. Survive these challenges, and you’ll retain everything you gather for future escapades.

Picture this: you and your team drop into a high-stakes zone, where the ultimate goal is to loot whatever you can and make it out alive. But the challenge doesn’t end there—you’re also up against AI security units and other competitors, each with their agenda. For those who thrive under pressure, Marathon offers the option to play solo, allowing you to take on other teams single-handedly and walk away with all the spoils.
