Alright, here goes nothing. So, imagine this: Itch.io, you know, that quirky hub for indie games? They just pulled a sneaky move, yanking all the grown-up games off their site. Yeah, you read that right. Apparently, they were getting some serious side-eye from the payment folks. Something about a group called Collective Shout – no clue who they are – basically hitting pause on Steam and Itch.io over racy stuff. Weird.
Now, Leaf Corcoran, the brain behind Itch.io, wrote one of those blogs (probably way too late at night, I’ve been there) explaining the whole fiasco. It’s like a wave of anti-porn vibes crashed over the platforms, and payment partners were like, “Whoa, hold up. Not on our watch!” I mean, who knew games could cause so much drama, right?
Anyway, Itch is doing this big content audit thing to play nice with their payment pals. Leaf was saying “Hey, the whole payment thing? It’s kinda our bread and butter.” Makes sense. Gotta keep the lights on. Also, gotta say, they’re really in a pickle — a time-warped one, too. They had to hustle, like, really fast to figure things out. No time for warning flares. Just boom, change. Sorry, developers. Oops.
And guess what? Valve’s caught in the same whirlwind. They tossed out these new, sorta foggy rules about what’s cool to post on Steam. Thanks, not-thanks to those payment processor pals nudged by the same pressure group. Fun times, huh?
So there’s that. Bit messy, but that’s life in game-land these days.
