According to a recent report from Jason Schreier over at Bloomberg, it seems the rumored upcoming DLC for Hogwarts Legacy has been put on hold indefinitely.
Schreier points out that there was supposed to be a definitive edition of Hogwarts Legacy. It was intended to roll out as an expansion for those who already own the game, but it got the axe due to some reshuffling efforts happening within WB Games.
This DLC package was set to bring a handful of fresh quests to the Wizarding World, including portions that didn’t make it into the initial game launch. The project was a collaboration, with the main team at Avalanche Software working closely alongside Rocksteady Studios, known for their work on Suicide Squad.
Based on what Bloomberg reports, they were looking at a potential release sometime in 2025, but the plug was pulled because there were doubts about whether the content offered matched the price tag they had in mind. Meanwhile, work is steadily progressing on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, but details are still pretty sparse, as the game is only just getting started in its development journey.
WB Games is definitely navigating some rough waters at the moment. They’ve seen a stream of games and studios being shut down, with Monolith Productions being among the latest to face closure. On top of that, the Wonder Woman game Monolith was working on has also been canceled.
When these closures were announced, Warner Bros. mentioned that they’re zeroing in on their heavy-hitting franchises like DC, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter. However, Schreier adds that when the chatter is about DC-themed games, the primary focus internally is Batman.
Meanwhile, Rocksteady Studios is hard at work on a new Batman Arkham game. Unfortunately for eager fans, it’s going to be quite a wait as it’s still in the early phases of development.
Hogwarts Legacy hit the shelves back in 2023 and quickly made a name for itself as one of the gaming industry’s biggest hits. It’s sold over 34 million copies to date and consistently lands spots on the U.S. best-seller lists, month after month.
