Warner Bros has reportedly pulled the plug on an expansion planned for Hogwarts Legacy. According to Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to debut alongside a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG, which promised to introduce new storylines.
The decision to cancel seems to have come down to a value assessment. There just wasn’t enough content to justify the proposed price, leading Warner Bros to axe the project. The original developers of the game, Avalanche Software, were working on this expansion in collaboration with Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also said to be tackling a sequel to the popular Harry Potter game.
Meanwhile, Rocksteady recently experienced layoffs after announcing that it would cease support for the 2024 title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This is part of a broader trend, as Warner Bros has openly acknowledged that its gaming division has been struggling. In fact, last year the company took a staggering $200 million write-off on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. They’ve also shuttered three studios, including Monolith, and their long-standing leader, David Haddad, recently stepped down.
