Man, it’s Wednesday, and guess what? PlayStation’s got this brand spankin’ new studio to show off. You ever meet someone and think, “Okay, who’s this then?” That’s kinda the vibe here. Don’t worry, they won’t bite. Execs, though? Whole different story. Anyway, say hello to teamLFG. They’ve just been snuggled into the PS studio family and are whipping up something multiplayer-ish. Oh, and they said it’s inspired by “frog-type games.” Whatever that means.
So, this news is hot off the PS Blog where Hermen Hulst, the big cheese at Sony Interactive, is all proud dad about it. Imagine him patting a newborn’s head and saying, “Look, it’s not a live-service shark.” Anyway — wait, no — back to the studio. It’s called teamLFG which, surprise, stands for “Looking For Group.” Bet you thought it was something edgier, huh? They’re stationed in Bellevue, Washington, and the folks there? A mixed bag of greenhorns and vets who’ve been elbow-deep in Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, and yep, they’re sort of a spin-off from Bungie.
These guys say they’re nuts about action-based gameplay, making you feel stuff in-game, and creating bustling virtual hangouts. Their whole deal is crafting a space where players can buddy up and feel like they fit in. That’s the dream, anyway. Apparently, they’ve got this “incubation project” bubbling away — whatever the heck that means — tied up in past Bungie layoff talks.
Anyway, their first game? Some team-based action mashup, pulling vibes from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and yeah, those elusive frog-type games. They’re building this zany, comedic world nestled in a fresh mythic sci-fi-fantasy kinda thing. And they’re all, “We can’t wait to spill the beans.” Whatever those beans are.
But frog-type games? Not like Frogger or anything detective-frog, but something else froggy. I don’t even know, but I’m all ears. Maybe they’re cooking up a team hero shooter with vibes from Tekken, Mario, a splash of Dota 2, and Crazy Frog? Now there’s a thought. Though, probably not that.
They’re big on early access playtests, so don’t be shocked if you hear about those soon. What do you reckon? Think PlayStation’s next big thing is some Crazy Frog Overwatch-y Fortnite-y concoction? Drop your thoughts below if you’ve got ‘em.
