Chrono Trigger: A Blast from the Past or Future?
So, there I was, casually scrolling through stuff when—bam!—Yuji Horii’s pondering a Chrono Trigger remake. Like, seriously? This gem from the SNES era, or ‘95 to be exact, might see daylight again. Honestly, not a single clue why this hits me differently than other remake buzz, but it does.
Horii was at some convention in Naples when he dropped this—not that Naples isn’t lovely or anything, but who knew such big gaming news would pop there? Anyway, Horii’s getting nudges from fans all over. Maybe it was intentional he shared the inkling there. Or maybe Naples just inspires big thoughts. Whatever.
The original game was like a dream came alive, what with Horii, Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame, and Akira Toriyama—yeah, the Dragon Ball guy. They whipped up this time-hopping saga where you, as Crono, dash through history to save the world. It’s a wild ride with multiple endings and music that honestly, and I mean honestly, sticks in your head forever. Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, total legends.
Rumors flew after a translation blip—something about a Chrono Trigger remake—but Horii kind of added fuel to the fire, saying he’s “beginning to contemplate” it. Contemplating! As if fans didn’t already go nuts over HD-2D hits like Dragon Quest 3. Maybe he was even inspired by the chatter on gaming forums. Or maybe, just maybe, he’s having a nostalgic moment. Who knows?
2025’s a big deal—it’s the 30th birthday of Chrono Trigger. Feels like just yesterday we were all getting sucked into that pixelated world. Square Enix hasn’t given any green light yet, though, which is slightly annoying. But with Horii busy on Dragon Quest 1 & 2 remakes and whispers of Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, dude’s got a lot on his plate. Teases just keep dropping bit by bit. I half expect them to burst out with news when we least expect it.
Clock’s ticking and fans are waiting. Imagine—a fresh take on Chrono Trigger! Play it across new platforms and dive into those epic battles all over again. Could happen, might not. But if it does, you bet I’ll be all over that!
