Final Fantasy 14 Might Have Unintentionally Disclosed a New Hairstyle

Man, so after the 88th Letter from the Producer LIVE or whatever—yeah, that happened, and of course, everyone’s buzzing on social media. Why? Something about a winning hairstyle from this 2023 design contest, which might pop up in the 7.3 update for FF14. Yeah, you heard me. Apparently, it’s sneakily hanging out in some armor preview related to this alliance raid, San d’Oria: The Second Walk. Honestly, I have no idea why this caught my eye, but it did.

So, during the stream, this guy Naoki Yoshida—who’s the boss of all things FF14—said Patch 7.3, The Promise of Tomorrow (fancy name right?), drops on August 5. After they fiddle with the servers, of course. It’s supposed to wrap up the main Dawntrail storyline. Maybe give us a hint of what’s coming next. Who doesn’t love a good cliffhanger? Besides the main stuff, there’s this deep dungeon thing, Pilgrim’s Traverse, also some craft quests and whatnot. And more raids, Echoes of Vana’diel. Maybe it’s interesting, maybe not. I’m sidetracking here. Anyways…

So, about those armor rewards. They’re kind of copying FF11, but that’s cool. Some sneaky fans (you know the drill) spotted a new hairstyle? Yeah, lurking among the items. On the FF14 subreddit, someone named Pinkbunnies66 (cute name, right?) pondered if this hairstyle slipped into the Patch 7.3 previews by accident. Oops? Everyone then kind of went, “OMG, it’s from the 2023 design contest,” like this third place or something featured by Square Enix. Imagine a miqo’te wearing it—it’s this cool medium-length style, and you can play with highlight channels on the inside. Fancy customization, huh? Maybe, maybe not.

Speaking of fancy, someone on Reddit was sure those bows the miqo’te’s rocking aren’t part of the new hairstyle, just the San d’Oria armor set. Drama, drama! But if the rumor’s true, it wouldn’t be Dawntrail’s first rodeo with contest-winning designs. Remember Patch 7.15? That Half Times Two hairstyle? People knew this stuff, trading Clouddark Demimateria II or just using Gil on the market. Good old commerce in a fantasy world.

FF14’s always tossing out new hairstyles in big updates. So, pretty logical to think Promise of Tomorrow wouldn’t skip on that. But who knows, right? Whether this style makes the cut or not, or how you’ll get it, remains to be seen. I mean, I’m curious, but we’ll find out soon, maybe.
