GPD threw a little teaser out there back in July about their new handheld. It’s powered by this impressive AMD Strix Halo chip, and they said it would make its grand entrance at the ChinaJoy event in Shanghai. So, naturally, the tech folks in China got their hands on it and started poking around. One guy, Jobs_Bao, even took it for a spin on the showroom floor—you know, running those intense tests like Cinebench R23 and Time Spy, then shared the dirt on Bilibili.
The thing hit 30,495 on Cinebench. Pretty wild, putting it on par with those desktop-level Intel Core i9-13900HX processors. And it didn’t even burn up! Topped out at 80.3 degrees Celsius. The vents were only slightly warm, around 45 degrees. Fans were noisy, though, like 95dB noisy—kinda like, “Wow, could you keep it down over there?”
Now, graphics-wise, it’d score 9,680 with Time Spy. So close to the RTX 4060’s record that it probably got a little jealous. Though, GPD decided to keep the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 throttled at just 70 watts—could’ve gone for 120 watts, honestly. But hey, still good enough to play most games on Ultra at 1080p. Another creator, PureDIY, was playing Black Myth: Wukong on it, cruising at over 80 FPS.
Anyway, let’s talk battery—it’s 5,170mAh and kind of a chunky monkey. You can pop it in and out at the back, which, sure, makes it heavier (340 grams, if you’re counting). The plus side? Swap it fast when it’s dead, especially if you’re out and about. If you’re hanging near a plug, just use the 180-watt brick directly.
There are two flavors of the GPD Win 5. The beefy one with the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and Radeon 8060S, loaded up to 128GB. And then there’s a friendly budget version with the Ryzen AI Max 385 and Radeon 8050S. Price tags? Still a mystery.
