Diablo 2 turned the big 2-5, right? Like, we’re talking June 8, 2025. Gosh, makes you wonder where the time goes! Anyway, to mark the occasion, the official Diablo account on X (yeah, still getting used to calling it that) tossed out this teaser: “If you think you’ve seen and done it all, just wait for the chaos we’ve yet to unleash.” Naturally, fans went kind of nuts debating what this mysterious chaos could be. New runewords? Maybe a fresh hero? Or, I don’t know, a new act? The possibilities kind of sparked my imagination. Seriously, I could dream forever about more years of this game.
And guess what? We sort of know what they’ve been cooking up. Turns out, Diablo 2: Resurrected is hitting China. That’s the scoop. Surprised? I was. But at the ChinaJoy 2025 expo, boom, Blizzard and NetEase rolled out the red carpet for it.
Johanna Faries from Blizzard hopped on LinkedIn, posting a trailer and hinting at Diablo 4 coming “soon” in China too. Wondering why China had to wait so long? Yeah, me too. Suppose it has to do with their strict rules on game content—like, gotta tone down the blood and gore a bit—plus, foreign games need a local publisher there, so enter NetEase.
Diablo 2: Resurrected isn’t gonna be the same old song and dance. Chinese players won’t be mixing it up in the global multiplayer realms, and apparently, the game there does its own thing. They’ve got fun tiered packages: 168 Yuan for the regular stuff (that’s about $23). There’s also the deluxe and ultimate versions with fancy items and boosts that last longer. Love how China embraces pay-to-win while we scratch our heads.
The new set, “Glory of the Warlord,” in the ultimate pack? Helpful early on but not exactly game-changing. And stash tabs! Pre-orders get an extra one plus more you can buy. Yet another reason for veteran players elsewhere to facepalm.
What’s it mean for the rest of us playing Diablo 2: Resurrected? Not much directly, probably. Seems Blizzard still has skin in the game. I did have a little rant a while back about another new season without much change, urging for mods to keep the game alive. Maybe this Chinese launch is step one in bigger plans. Or maybe not. Just hoping for more to come, fingers crossed.
