Nintendo Releases – May 8, 2025 – Update

So hey, did anyone catch what we skipped over last week? No? Super Xevious? Yeah, I didn’t either. Totally flew under the radar. Anyway, or maybe not anyway — seems like the big chatter is all about this remake of Tokimeki Memorial. Yes, that’s right, classic vibes here in Japan. But some folks think High on Life could actually steal the spotlight, thanks to a surprise appearance in Switch 1 Direct. And honestly, knowing the creative genius (or chaos, I suppose) behind Rick and Morty is helming it, well, it’s kind of wild considering his less-than-glorious exit. Talk about someone who couldn’t keep his personal life under wraps. Awkward.

And the runner-up in the interesting stakes? Spiritfall, coming out Friday. Also, is it just me, or does the EggConsole shuffling over to the PC-98 with Rune Worth sound a tad esoteric? If you don’t speak Japanese, uh, good luck enjoying that one. Meanwhile, Europe’s already teasing us with pre-launch sales for Switch 2 on the eShop. First up is Hitman: World of Assassination. I mean, wasn’t it just waiting to happen?

North America
Messy lineup time! Here we go — brace yourselves.

• High on Life is hitting shelves at about forty bucks. Canadian folks, you’re looking at fifty-two dollars there. That’s Tuesday.
• Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 is a little cheaper, around thirty bucks. Same story, higher up north.
• Captain Blood joins the fray on Tuesday (weird pirate vibes, anyone?)
• Some Mirage something… totally forgettable, but there it is.
• Chaos Galaxy 2… come on, it’s basically chaotic because who even keeps track?
• Got to mention Spiritfall again for Friday. It’s repeating, but you catch more with doubles, right?
• Dunk Dunk? I’m seeing price tags but drawing a blank on what it even is.

Oh, quick jumps here: some lovely titles like Pet The Pup At The Party and the oddly amusing Kill The Emoji 2. I mean, who knew emojis needed such life-threatening games?

Ooo, whimsically cheap stuff like Garbage is Fun (‘cause who doesn’t love quirky irony?) Oh, and there’s a game about gym lifting heroes for the weekend warriors. Ha-ha.

Europe
It’s a whole other shebang, but surprisingly similar.

• High on Life again, in Euros AND Pounds. Dual currency trouble, right there.
• Spiritfall reemerges, same day and date.
• Some strings of theory thing – conspiracy theorists, this one’s on a budget.
• Truck simulators and cat-rabbit pizza farming — because why not, eh?
• Budget titles aplenty; if you dig enough, there’s something for you. (As long as you’re not picky.)

Japan
Peak chaos continued:

• Shiny Tokimeki Memorial — come on, who doesn’t enjoy some melodrama? It’s about connection and all.
• Random sim games, because when in Japan, sim it up.
• Have you seen Dunk Dunk here too? Feels like it’s trying too hard to be international.
